The IABA Foundation administers a scholarship program to benefit college students pursuing studies leading to a career in the actuarial profession. Key components of the program include: Financial Support – IABA has disbursed more than $75,000 in scholarship awards since the program’s inception equipping numerous students with the financial support to achieve their academic goals. Professional Development – Scholarship recipients are offered the opportunity to attend IABA’s annual meeting opening the door to a network of professional support and educational opportunities. Workshops offered at annual meetings enhance technical knowledge, business skills and introduce students to the broad spectrum of actuarial disciplines. There are further opportunities to interact with IABA members at local meetings throughout the year. Mentoring – Scholarship recipients are matched with a seasoned actuarial professional that is able to share career advice from their personal experiences. IABA’s mentoring program is also open to all others interested, no matter what stage of their career. Outreach - The IABA Foundation’s outreach also extends to raising awareness for the profession among high school students and providing them with the encouragement to build the mathematics skills necessary for success. IABA promotes education by working with Mathematics Departments of local public high schools to improve and enhance the math skills of their students through our “Adopt-a-School” program. Assistance is also provided to students who are in the exam-taking process through tutoring and coordinated study groups. Further, the IABA Foundation seeks to provide a network of support to actuarial professionals in their chosen career. IABA’s professional development programs and mentoring also benefit the broader actuarial community by increasing the retention of Blacks in the profession. The number of Blacks entering the actuarial profession is increasing significantly every year yet there is still much work to be done as Blacks still represent only about 1% of the population of credentialed actuaries. The leadership team of the IABA Foundation is dedicated to favorably changing this statistic. Simply put, we are working to turn potential into reality and opportunity into experience. We invite you to join in this important work. Put simply, the IABA Foundation turns potential into reality and opportunity into experience. Sponsorship of IABA provides many key benefits:
