2019 IABA Actuarial Boot Camp

We are happy to announce the dates of our 2019 International Association of Black Actuaries Actuarial Boot Camp. We are in search of College students at the Undergraduate or Graduate level and career changers with demonstrated career commitment for this professional development opportunity.  The Actuarial Boot Camp is available to Black students from around the world who are interested in pursuing an actuarial career.  A limited number of spots will also be awarded to Latinx students, through IABA's partnership with the Organization of Latino Actuaries (OLA).

The mission of IABA is to contribute to an increase in the number of black actuaries and to influence the successful career development, civic growth and achievement of black actuaries. Aligned with the mission, the IABA will once again host an Actuarial Boot Camp geared towards increasing industry awareness and positioning participants for a successful actuarial internship or entry-level opportunity.  The Boot Camp is perfect for individuals seeking:

  • Industry exposure to understand landscape in which actuaries operate and importance of diversity in the profession
  • Further exposure to actuarial profession highlighting diversity of work
  • Creation/Solidification of personal brand and elevator pitch
  • Hands on resume revision
  • Focused interview prep and feedback including mock interviews
  • Emotional intelligence and Professionalism Training
  • Actuarially relevant, technical skills training

All attendees of the Actuarial Boot Camp will have fully sponsored attendance (covering registration, lodging, and participation) to the 2019 Annual Meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Houston, August 1 - 3, right after the Boot Camp concludes. 

Additionally, Boot Camp attendees will have the opportunity to interact in an intimate environment with high-level executives from IABA’s Corporate Advisory Council including: Aetna, Aon, DW Simpson, Ernst & Young, Lincoln Financial Group, MetLife, Milliman, New York Life, Principal, Prudential, Travelers, UnitedHealth Group, Willis Towers Watson.

The program is free of charge but there is an application fee of $100 – made payable to IABA. Application fee can be paid via check or credit card and will be refunded if not selected to participate.  The final deadline for submitting all materials is March 31, 2019.
