Resources to Launch Your Actuarial Career
IABA offers financial support, exam preparation resources, and professional development programs designed for students pursuing actuarial careers.
Please select from the following:
- Scholarships
Each year, IABA awards merit-based scholarships to Black undergraduate and graduate students.
The goal of the scholarship program is not only to recognize talent and potential, but also to help ease financial burdens. This allows students to focus on their studies, professional development, and building a pathway into the actuarial profession.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada, or a citizen of any Caribbean or African nation on a United States or Canadian student visa
- Be admitted to a college or university in the United States or Canada offering either a program in actuarial science or courses that will serve to prepare the student for an actuarial career
- Have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Have a demonstrated tie to the actuarial career
Scholarships are renewable and include a travel stipend and hotel accommodations to attend the Annual Meeting. Since 1992, IABA has awarded nearly $2 million in scholarships.

Application deadline: March 31, 2027
Award announcement: May 2027- Exam Prep Program
The 20-week Exam Prep Program helps students prepare for and pass either Financial Mathematics (FM) or Probability (P). The program provides study materials, mentorship support, peer engagement opportunities, and assistance with exam registration.
Students attend weekly one-hour virtual meetings guided by IABA student leaders and mentors to discuss exam topics and engage with peers taking the same exam. The program requires a commitment of 300 hours of study over 20 weeks and provides exam fee reimbursement for students who remain engaged and demonstrate exam readiness.
The program creates accountability while reducing the isolation many students experience during exam prep. Students build relationships with peers facing the same challenges and develop study habits that carry forward to future exams.
Eligibility:
- Be enrolled in a United States or Canadian college
- Have completed calculus or financial mathematics
- Have not passed exams FM or P
- Commit to weekly meetings and 300 study hours over 20 weeks
